  451. =head1 NAME
  452. dpkg-scansources - search for '.dsc' files and build the 'Sources' index
  453. =head1 SYNOPSIS
  454. B<dpkg-scansources> [switch]... I<binary-dir> [I<override-file>
  455. [I<path-prefix>]] > Sources
  456. =head1 DESCRIPTION
  457. B<dpkg-scansources> scans the given I<binary-dir> for F<.dsc> files.
  458. These are used to create a Debian source index, which is output to
  459. stdout.
  460. The I<override-file>, if given, is used to set priorities in the resulting
  461. index records and to override the maintainer field given in the F<.dsc>
  462. files. See L<dpkg-scanpackages> for the format of this file. NB: Since
  463. the override file is indexed by binary, not source, packages, there's a bit
  464. of a problem here. The current implementation uses the highest priority of
  465. all the binary packages produced by a F<.dsc> file for the priority of the
  466. source package, and the override entry for the first binary package listed
  467. in the F<.dsc> file to modify maintainer information. This might change.
  468. The I<path-prefix>, if given, is prepended to the directory field in the
  469. generated source index. You generally use this to make the directory
  470. fields contain the path from the top of the Debian archive hierarchy.
  471. =head1 OPTIONS
  472. =over 4
  473. =item B<--debug>
  474. Turn debugging on.
  475. =item B<--help>
  476. Show the usage message and die.
  477. =item B<-n>, B<--no-sort>
  478. Don't sort the index records. Normally they are sorted by source package
  479. name.
  480. =item B<-s>, B<--source-override> I<file>
  481. Use I<file> as the source override file. The default is the name of the
  482. override file you specified with I<.src> appended.
  483. The source override file is in a different format from the binary override
  484. file. It contains only two whitespace separated fields, the first is the
  485. source package name and the second is the section. Blank lines and comment
  486. lines are ignored in the normal manner. If a package appears in both files
  487. the source override takes precedence for setting the section.
  488. =item B<--version>
  489. Print the version number and exit.
