  1. -- Real Problems
  2. #24000: Bug in apt Version: 0.0.17-1bo0
  3. Summary: Couldn't locate an archive source for a package
  4. Status: Require Status file.
  5. #24685: HTTP Proxy cache refresh
  6. Summary: Some caches hold onto the package index file for too long
  7. Status: It may be possible to insert the proper header to disable
  8. caching but I can't think how to do this while allowing
  9. the cache to return cached objects - in effect it would
  10. completely disable the cache which may not be desired.
  11. #24717: apt dies early if one postinst/preinst dies
  12. Status: Requires dpkg modifications
  13. #22892: Apt improvements
  14. #28184: apt could be smarter regarding mirrors
  15. Summary: Make use of redundant sources
  16. Status: 0.3.0 will likely do this, already the information for it is stored.
  17. #25104: APT should retry failed downloads
  18. Summary: FTP method has problems with busy servers
  19. Status: The 0.3.0 ftp method should probably use the configuration mechanism
  20. to control this desired behavoir.
  21. #25176: Problem with FTP/firewall
  22. #25458: Problem with FTP/firewall
  23. Summary: FTP method has no controls for firewalls
  24. Status: The 0.3.0 ftp method should probably use the configuration mechanism
  25. to control this desired behavoir.
  26. -- Fixed but unclosed things
  27. #25026: apt: Why do you list the packages you're _not_ doing anything to instead of the ones you are?
  28. #22507: apt: apt-get - listing packages to be upgraded (wishlist)
  29. Summary: Feature request
  30. Status: Fixed in 0.3.0 via the -u option
  31. #21113: [Apt] In dselect, update dies and exits if the packages file is not found.
  32. Status: Fixed in 0.3.0
  33. #22675: APT does not honor the --admin-dir option
  34. #22836: Disk/Zip-Method for apt?
  35. Summary: APT does not provide a way to download packages onto a
  36. removable media for another computer
  37. Status: 0.3.0 has substantially better support for this to the point
  38. that it is doable by using a seperate configuration file and
  39. the -c option
  40. #27601: srange errors from dselect
  41. Summary: Couldn't locate an archive source
  42. Status: Require status file
  43. Believed to be fixed in 0.1.9, was not reproducable w/ given
  44. status file
  45. #27841: apt: apt depends on a missing library
  46. Status: New versions of APT in slink have been compiled with libstdc++2.9
  47. #23984: apt: support for "no_proxy" would be nice
  48. Status: Planed to be integrated into the new methods via the configuration
  49. file
  50. Done - Use Acquire::http::proxy::host.com="DIRECT"
  51. #25021: apt: Need some control over multiple connections
  52. Status: Probable that 0.3.x will have support for configuing some
  53. parameters
  54. Done - Use Acquire::Queue-Mode="access"
  55. #25019: apt: Confusing progress report
  56. Summary: Gripes about the progress meter
  57. Status: I do not intend to implement very many of these ideas in apt-get.
  58. The GUI will naturally be better
  59. I think the new progress meter address basically everyone's
  60. concerns.
  61. #25022: apt: Lack of feedback on date checking
  62. Summary: Wants to know what package files were not updated
  63. Status: There is no place for this in the current apt-get design,
  64. probably won't make the GUI either.
  65. Wee, the new acquire code allows this, it now prints out 'Hit'
  66. #26019: apt may report wrong line speed
  67. #26433: apt: claims to fetch things it doesn't actually fetch (wishlist)
  68. #28778: apt: apt's fetched message is wrong for update of packages files
  69. Summary: APT includes the fetch time from the local cache in its
  70. calculations
  71. Status: Probably will be fixed with new acquire code
  72. And it actually was fixed with the new acquire code
  73. #26670: apt: apt-get dumps core after checking integrity
  74. Summary: Some terminal environments cause APT to crash
  75. Win95 telnet and emacs term-in-a-buffer are two at least
  76. Status: I have no idea why.
  77. Seems to be gone in .3, whatever it was...
  78. #25001: apt: cleaned out archive even though not all files were installed
  79. Status: Apparently in some cases APT can return a success code even
  80. though it failed. I'm paying very close attention to this in
  81. 0.3.x. Not to mention that the clean behavior will be
  82. configurable..
  83. #28391: apt-get install without upgrading
  84. Summary: Make install leave the package in the keep state if it is already
  85. installed
  86. Status: Will be implemented in 0.3.0
  87. Try the --no-upgrade options
  88. #28373: apt package is missing information on ftp.conf
  89. #29293: apt: Docs reference apt(8) but apt(8) not provided.
  90. Summary: The man pages have references to several non-existent items,
  91. ftp.conf is only one of them.
  92. Status: Fix the man pages. This certainly will be done in 0.3.0
  93. #24799: Some suggestions for the apt method in dselect
  94. Summary: Wants to be able to specifiy -d from dselect
  95. Status: Likely a APT_OPTIONS enviornment variable will be created, -d can
  96. be put there.
  97. There is already an APT_CONFIG in 0.3, APT_OPTIONS may also
  98. appear..
  99. Use Dselect::Options "-d" and others
  100. -- Silly things
  101. #26592: apt: Problems with ftpd in SunOS 5.6
  102. Summary: SunOS ftpd does not support the SIZE command
  103. Status: Probably not worth fixing
  104. #20723: Apt suggestion
  105. Summary: Package Grouping Mechanism
  106. Status: Who knows
  107. #22550: apt-get upgrade could configure packages earlier
  108. Status: Who knows
  109. #23934: apt-get source <package>
  110. #27190: apt: installing source packages (wishlist)
  111. Status: Impossible to do without an index file for all source archives.
  112. #26663: rsync file access
  113. Status: Unlikely, rsync does not provide the necessary support to be
  114. a terribly good method. I do not intend any 'split mode'
  115. support (ie a way to get Package files via rsync and .debs
  116. via http)
  117. #22551: apt: wish: use dist X iff pkg does not exist in dist Y
  118. #27100: apt: Better support for project/experimental
  119. Status: GUI Feature - Version selection and pinning
  120. #28172: HTTP Proxy cache refresh should be forced for corrupted packages
  121. Summary: Some problem resulted in a corrupted package
  122. Status: I belive this reflects a deeper problem and the suggested solution
  123. is only a band-aide patch. I intend to close this bug when #24685
  124. is fixed with a configuration directive.
  125. #27646: Apt: dpkg --merge-avail
  126. Summary: Suggestion to call merge avail after each update operation
  127. Status: Unlikely. The dpkg --print-avail functions should be obsoleted
  128. by the apt-query program which should be written.
